Festivities are taking place at national, state and local levels between October 19 – 27 to celebrate Children’s Week and the right of children to enjoy childhood.

Children’s Day is held on the fourth Wednesday of October annually in Australia to coincide with Universal Children’s Day.

Each year the theme of Children’s Week highlights an important children’s right.

This year the 2019 theme is UNCRC Article 24 – ‘Children have the right to the best health care possible, safe water to drink, nutritious food, a clean and safe environment, and information to help them stay well.’

Basically, richer countries should help poorer countries to achieve this.”

Children’s health starts with healthy communities. Where children live, play and go to school. We can all help to build a great foundation for healthy children by making sure our communities have quality health care, clean air and water, nutritious food options, support for parents and safe places to play and socialise.

Children’s Week is a great opportunity to join the conversation about how governments and communities can work side by side to keep all children healthy.
